three movement work in the style of the French Quartet of the 40's and 50's.
It has several humorous moments in the spirit of Offenbach and Poulenc.
Moderately difficult. The second movement has some chromaticism however
the work is mostly tonal. A very interesting piece to listen to with good
audience appeal.

From the collection of 15 Fantazias written in 1680. Some very peculiar
harmonies sounding more like the late Renaissance. They are not wrong
notes.

arrangements of some Bill Evans jazz charts by Baltimore jazz tenor saxophonist
Kellogg Johnson and two of his own creation. Very Early is a great waltz
arrangement. 7.3 is a big band bop chart and Readout is excellent for
anyone wanting to do a strange chart in mixed meter. They are in the style
of the big band saxophone section. Special deal almost 17' worth of music

Buffalo
composer Steve Parisi wrote this work for the Amherst Saxophone Quartet in
the early 90's. It is, as the title implies, a neat and very rhythmic samba.
All 4 saxes have an opportunity to improvise. It is in Rondo form and does
require accurate rhythmic playing. It's a fun piece that will have the
audiences bouncing to the beat.

Written in 1985 by
long time Buffalo flute player and teacher Dr. Robert Mols for the Amherst
Saxophone Quartet. It is in one continuous movement divided into three
sections: Fast, Slow, and Tempo primo (Fast). It is rhythmically complex
with numerous meter changes. The harmony is quite tonal with almost jazz
overtones. It will certainly maintain the interest of both the performers
and listeners.

Written
in 1987 by long time Buffalo flute player and teacher Dr. Robert Mols also for
the Amherst Saxophone Quartet. It is in one continuous movement divided
into slow and fast sections with each section being a piece of the overall
picture as the title implies. It is rhythmically complex with numerous
meter changes and obviously many tempo changes. The harmony is tonal
with jazz overtones. It is a very interesting piece to listen
to with the constantly changing ebb and flow of tempo, rhythm and harmony.
A challenging piece.

This
piece was written in 1988 for the Amherst Saxophone Quartet and violin soloist
by Buffalo pianist and composer Steve Parisi. It is complex rhythmically
with a Latin feel and leans toward quartal harmony throughout. All four
saxophone parts are quite demanding and require some degree of technical
facility. It is in three movements: 1-Allegro 2-Andante placido 3-Vivace.
A very challenging work but interesting to listen to. Very well written
for this combination of instruments.

One of the
first pieces written for the Amherst Saxophone Quartet in 1984 by Buffalo based
jazz pianist Steve Parisi. As the title states this is a two movement work
with a slow and lyrical first movement and a bright and pointillistic second
movement. It is very well written for the instruments. There is
mixed meter throughout but easy to follow. Both movements are written in
Rondo form ABA. This piece has great audience appeal. Technically
very playable.
