Biography

Dr. Nascimben holds a Master of Music Degree with a major in Woodwinds and Doctor of Musical Arts Degree with a major in Saxophone Performance from the University of Michigan where he studied saxophone with Larry Teal and worked as a Teaching Assistant for both Dr. Teal and Dr. William Revelli. Under Dr. Revelli he was conductor of the Varsity Band, Graduate Assistant with the Michigan Marching Band and Librarian. Dr. Nascimben received his undergraduate degree from Fredonia State College where he studied with Dr. William Willett. Upon completing his graduate studies Dr. Nascimben taught at the University of Texas at Austin, where he started the saxophone studio and was Assistant Professor of Saxophone, Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies, Graduate Advisor and Editor of the Music Curriculum in the University Handbook. Upon returning to the Buffalo area he taught at SUNY at Buffalo and Buffalo State College. He taught public school music for the last 20 years and retired from that endeavor to pursue other musical activities. Dr. Nascimben currently is publishing over 200 saxophone quartets of transcriptions, arrangements and original works under the company name “NASCO”. Dr. Nascimben was 1st Alto Saxophone with the United States Military Academy Band at West Point where he appeared as soloist and was founding member of the West Point Saxophone Quartet. He has been a member of the Tonawanda’s Post 264 National Championship Band from 1963 to the present, serving as Conductor and has appeared numerous times as guest soloist. He performs with the Erie County Wind Ensemble and has appeared as soloist with that group. Dr. Nascimben is lead alto with Buffalo Swing, a 1940’s big band. He also currently performs with the Buffalo Philharmonic. He was a founding member, music director, program manager and arranger for the Amherst Saxophone Quartet with appearances at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and numerous concert venues throughout the United States. He has recorded with MCA, Musical Heritage Societyand Mark Records. He is currently alto saxophonist and is a founding member of the DaCapo Saxophone Quartet which performs regularly around the Buffalo Area. Their last CD, “Blue Thoughts”, is music from the ragtime era. He has been a member of MENC and NYSSMA since 1962 and has been a NYSSMA woodwind adjudicator for over 30 years. Over the last six years he has primarily been evaluating major ensembles throughout New York State. Dr. Nascimben plays exclusively on Selmer saxophones..
